The Right Way

The Right Way is a live in rehabilitation program
for women who have had drug and alcohol addiction
issues and have been mandated through the court system
to successfully complete this one year program. There
are conditions that the women are required to complete
prior to graduating from the program. Some of the
conditions include completing their GED, having a full
time job, paying a monthly fee on time for their rent,
completing the 12 step AA program, attending and
participating in trauma counseling, and life skill
classes. The Right Way house is located on 129 South in
White county.
These women are often brought to the house with
only what they are wearing that day. Volunteers like
Suzi Anderson and her friend Donna Rutledge coordinate
donations and deliver them weekly. If anyone would like
to donate, these women are in need of: shoes and
clothing, personal items, bedding, pillows as well as
alarm clocks and watches. If you prefer you can make a
financial donation and Suzi will do the shopping for
needed items. Suzi and Donna also teach life skills
such as budgeting and managing finances, communication
skills for interviews, how to start loving yourself,
how to break old habits and start new ones, how to cook
and how to dress for success. These women are so
grateful for anything they receive no matter if it’s
material items or knowledge or just the fact that we
have given our time and energy to teach them new
skills.
It’s a real blessing that when one person is
feeling down or confused, everyone in the house comes
together to lift them up in prayer, in moral support
and when appropriate with humor! Watching these women

develop throughout the course of The Right Way program
is much like watching a caterpillar inside of a cocoon,
initially fearful but slowly gaining confidence. As
time goes by the cocoon opens and a beautiful butterfly
emerges with wings soon ready to fly!
